What radon testing and mitigation costs in Fairfield County
There is no single published price for radon mitigation in this guide, because no listed company publishes a fixed mitigation price on its own website. Everything below explains what drives a quote, so you can compare written quotes on the same basis. Do not treat a testing price as a mitigation price: a test and a mitigation system are different services with different prices.

What drives a mitigation quote
- Air or water: mitigation in air (for example sub-slab depressurization) and mitigation in water (for example aeration or granular activated carbon) are different systems with different scopes.
- Foundation and house type: slab, basement, crawlspace, or a combination, and the size of the house.
- System design: number of suction points, pipe routing, fan type, and whether electrical work is needed.
- Retesting: whether a post-mitigation test is included, and what happens if the follow-up result calls for adjustments.
- Existing conditions: whether a system already exists and needs repair, fan replacement or maintenance.
- Real-estate timing: transaction testing and mitigation often run on a closing deadline, which can change scheduling.
- Water treatment scope: for well water, whether filtration, softening or other treatment is bundled with radon treatment.
Published testing prices (one company only)
The only fixed prices published on any company's own website in this guide are testing prices from The Proper Inspection, and they belong to that company only. They are not county averages and not mitigation prices:
- Radon in air: 48-hour minimum test for Radon 222, $200 ($250 as a standalone test).
- Radon in water: $100.
- Standard water profile including radon in water: $425.
Every other company in this guide publishes no fixed price figures and quotes by free estimate, free consultation or a phone quote. If a company gives you a mitigation figure, ask whether it is a firm written quote for your exact scope or only an estimate.
A program estimate, not a company price
The Connecticut Department of Public Health radon program states on its own page that the approximate cost of an air radon mitigation system in Connecticut is about $1,200. That figure is a program estimate, not a price published by any company in this guide, and it must not be read as a quote for your home.
What a written quote should itemize
- Exact scope: air testing, water testing, or both; which rooms or water sources; and whether retesting after mitigation is included.
- System type and components: what kind of system, how many suction points, fan and piping, and what electrical work is included.
- Who installs: the company's own crew or subcontractors, and what happens after a high result if the company tests only.
- Timeline: how long testing takes, how long installation takes, and when retesting happens.
- Total price and what would change it: extra suction points, extra rooms, electrical upgrades, or conditions found during the work.
Ask every company the same questions and compare itemized quotes, not headline figures. The quote-questions checklist on the Get quotes page is built for exactly that comparison.
